Good Job on the Half Marathon Dean
Dean completed the Fargo Half Marathon this past weekend. To keep up to date on Dean's training and races read his Training Journal.
Bottlecap Design Contest Winner: Angry Birds
Our very own Dean Gurney has won the Bottle Cap contest posted here a few weeks ago. Dean submitted a great idea - Bert & Ernie's favourite birds, a pigeon and a duck respectively, with a bit of attitude. With his permission some creative licence was taken and the final artwork is a bit different than what was originally submitted but he gets top marks for the concept.
We've got a bit of a Seseme Street theme going for the race this year, and every medalist will be awarded a custom bottlecap featuring Bert & Ernies angry pals to adorn an also awarded head set top cap bottlecap holder.
Trg Coop's "A Rocha Pembina Valley MTB Race" CANCELED FOR 2010"
Unfortunately, due to problems gaining confirmed access to Pembina Valley Provincial Park (PVPP) trails for cycling in 2010, and the currently limited length of trails at the "A ROCHA MANITOBA FIELD STUDY CENTRE" located adjacent to PVPP, THE TRAINING COOP'S "A ROCHA PEMBINA VALLEY MOUNTAIN BIKE RACE" PLANNED FOR 17 JULY 2010 IS NOW CANCELED (as of 26 May 10).

Jen's off to San Diego for a new job!
Very interesting news from our honourary TrainingCoop member, Jen (I say honourary because we're honouring ourselves by calling such a capable gal a member): She's taken a job as the web editor of Ironman's new publication, Lava Magazine. Launching in the next month or two, Lava Magazine is being published by the former publisher of Triathlon Magazine and VeloNews. In addition to an exciting and high profile new job this means that Jen and her husband Mark will be moving to San Diego (she gets around - she's currently working for a publisher located in the Watergate Hotel in Washington D.C.), and it means Jen will likely have some pretty nice bike stuff at her disposal. The shoes at the end of her gams in the picture to the left complimented her Dura Ace equipped Willier that she had on loan for the weekend while in San Diego, presumably doing recon for her new job.

Goooooaaaaaal
It's been a few years since I've hit the soccer pitch, and in my mind I believe I used to be better than I actually was, but I certainly can't say I ever pulled off a goal like this:

"Cycle of Hope" training update
Yesterday I surpassed 2100km training mileage in preparation for the Cycle of Hope. My plan is to add about 1100km more training before July 3.
The past few rides have been especially encouraging as speeds have increased while efforts have remained consistent.
I would be fooling myself if I thought that I was responsible for this.
I think most of the credit for this extra speed belongs to Morgan at Olympia Cycle and the upgrades to my crankset and bottom bracket. My Trek 5000 is working better than new, thanks to his excellent work.

15 years...
The date on the wall says that Deanna and I have now officially been married for 15 years. Yikes! For those keeping score at home it's also worth noting that we first dated 22 years ago.
Here's just some of the fitness related stuff we've bought together during our married lives:
Road bikes: 3
Cross bikes: 4
Mountain bikes: 7
Single Speed bikes: 3
Triathlon bikes: 1
29er bikes: 2
Kayaks: 7
Snowshoes: 4 pairs
Skis: 2 pairs
Squash rackets: 2
Racquetball rackets: 2
Free weights: over 1000 lbs.
Sheesh, you'd think I'd be in better shape with all of that stuff. Joking aside, it's pretty cool to have a training partner and best friend rolled into one - we've made use of all the above equipment together, we've broken a couple of bones, acquired countless sprains and bruises, we have a few more scars now then we did 15 years ago, and we've discovered we're better at some things than others, but it's literally been a fun ride. Here's to the next 15 babe.
Oh, and here's the front of the anniversary card I found for Deanna...

I've read in a number of places that this is an authentic picture, though I must admit I'm still skeptical. Tuesday, May 4, 2010
Bottlecap Design Contest
All right, it's time to order our custom bottlecaps for our cyclocross race in the fall. These caps will be awarded along with special headset top caps that can hold the bottlecaps in place (check them out here). Monday, May 3, 2010
Grand Beach Race
Worst part of the race: Backing waaaay off of Kevin's wheel when the leg cramps started on the third of four laps and then watching helplessly as just about everybody went by.
Scariest part of the race: A random cyclist breaking through course tape heading downhill on singletrack with chariot trailer and shrieking kids in tow.
